Statement from CT Baker Group

A devastating fire has destroyed CT Baker Budgens of Holt.

Emergency services were called to the family-run, independent store at approximately 9.15pm on Saturday 20 June after reports of a fire at the site in Kerridge Way.

The store closed at 6pm and was vacant at the time of the fire. All members of the Budgens of Holt team are safe, and there are no reports of injuries.

Emergency services are currently still on scene and the local authority (North Norfolk District Council) is working to ensure the stability of nearby buildings. Members of the public are being advised to keep safe and avoid the store, where a cordon is still in place.

Jane Gurney-Read, Managing Director of CT Baker Group, said: “We are all absolutely devastated and utterly heartbroken. It has been an enormous shock for our team who have always given so much to the local community and have worked tirelessly during the lockdown.

“Thankfully, no one was hurt. I am hugely grateful to the emergency services and would like to thank our local community for the many messages of support we have received. Our team, customers and local suppliers are very much part of our family, so we will be doing everything we can to look after them at this time.”

The Group is working with local partners including North Norfolk District Council, Love Holt (former Holt Chamber of Trade) and Holt Town Council to ensure it continues to support vulnerable customers, including providing a Post Office service, as it has been doing so throughout the coronavirus crisis.

Updates will be shared through CT Baker Budgens of Holt’s website and social media channels.
