£15,289.67 raised in Aid of Big C

Posted on Oct 10, 2013

It was a crisp September morning when the 10 strong team of C T Baker Group led by MD Michael Baker were all in the hanger of UK Parachuting lying on their tummies with their arms and legs in the air trying to make a shape of a banana.  You ask yourself what on earth possessed them to do this; surely there were better things to do at 8am on a non-working day!  But the reason is quite simply – these brave folks were preparing to do a tandem skydive. In less than an hour they were scheduled to jump out of the plane at 13,000ft, free fall for 8,000ft in around 40 seconds at speeds of around 200mph when the parachute would open before descending to the safety of the ground to raise funds for the Big C – Norfolk and Waveney own cancer charity.  A further two members of the C T Baker team jumped at the beginning of October.   The team were delighted with the fundraising support they received from family and friends and also the generous support from suppliers to the group businesses.  Together through their efforts they were able to present a cheque to Daniel Williams, CEO and Diane Northway of Big C for £15,289.67.   Michael Baker commented that he was extremely proud of the team from the business who volunteered to jump and raised this truly amazing amount of money which will go to support families in Norfolk who are or have been affected by cancer.   In addition to the money raised from the skydive, supporters of the Group and employees have raised further funds via tombola’s, collections and...

Sophie Christiansen OBE visits Holt

Posted on Aug 12, 2013

Sophie Christiansen OBE visits Holt   We were delighted that Triple Paralympic Gold medallist Sophie Christiansen OBE made a visit to Holt on Friday 28th June. She started her day with a visit to  Gresham’s Prep School where as special guest speaker  she handed out the prizes for achievements in academia, art and music to all of  the Year 8 leavers.  In her speech Sophie spoke to the pupils and parents about her determination not to allow her disabilities to stop her from following her dreams and that winning her first bronze medal changed her life and gave her the confidence to carry on. She encouraged everyone present to embrace change and follow their dreams.  Her speech was inspiring and made a huge impact resulting in a standing ovation when she finished. Her day concluded with a visit  to Budgens of Holt  to lend her support to the team at Budgens who are raising money for the North Norfolk branch of Riding for the Disabled.  Riding for Disabled North Norfolk branch was selected by the staff at Budgens of Holt’s as their nominated charity for 2013. Sophie met riders and helpers from the charity and explained that she too had started her passion for riding as a result of a visit to her local RDA  when  6 years old and as such is a keen supporter of all they do. The riders were amazed by the weight of the gold medals and enjoyed wearing them with pride and imagining what might occur for them in the future. Sophie also spoke to the team at Budgens and thanked them for all their hard efforts in raising money for such a worthwhile cause.  To date through raffles, tombolas and other instore events they have been able to raise over £3,000. Although not possible  for Janeiro 6 , Sophie’s horse, to be with her on the  day the team at Budgens did want to show their appreciation for all his efforts in winning three gold medals so  sent Sophie away with a goodie bag containing carrots, apples and polos –carrots and apples sourced locally ! Sophie is a  truly inspirational ambassador and her visit to Holt was very  much appreciated by all those who met her and were able to hear her story so...

Newly refurbished Budgens of Holt

Welcome to Budgens of Holt – Your local supermarket supplying local produce for local people Budgens shops are locally owned and run by individual retailers who care about the quality, provenance and value of their food and the needs of their community. With the acquisition of Budgens of Holt this policy was developed further to a stage where after 2 years of running the supermarket we were spending £0.5 million with local suppliers – everything from fruit and vegetables to meat, fish, yoghurt, even locally laid quails eggs. This support for local suppliers is growing continually. All-in-all we provide a superior local store, which employs local people, selling local produce, supporting local suppliers which keeps the money circulating locally rather than being spent elsewhere   Refurbished and extended in November 2011. Now the biggest Budgens in the UK   Click here for EDP...
